A Big Thank You To You All

It has been running close over the last few months but June 2010 saw more than 50,000 hits in a month for this blog, 54,445 to be precise.

Now this is very small in comparison to most sites on the web but for me it gives me some satisfaction that my wide musical taste is being tapped into by others and if only one person discovers a liking for a song, album or band that has passed them by for whatever reason then it is all worth while as I myself have benefited from such surprise discoveries.

The blog was never set up to seek popularity it’s key objective was and remains to provide some “therapy” for me away from the stresses and strains of normal life, if along the way people find some pleasure or interest in the music that I promote, the news I spread or the occasional bit of humour I deliver then that is a big bonus.

With the recent passing of Alex Chilton this seems so more appropriate.

“Thank You Friends” – Big Star

Thank you, friends
Wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for you
I’m so grateful for all the things you helped me do.

All the ladies and gentlemen
Who made this all so probable

Thank you, friends
I rejoice to the skies
Dear ones like you do the best I do
As far as can see my eyes

All the ladies and gentlemen
Who made this all so probable

Without my friends I got chaos
I’m often a bead of light.
Without my friends I’d be swept up high by the wind

do, do…….

All the ladies and gentlemen (I said all)
All the ladies and gentlemen (I said all)
All the ladies and gentlemen
Who made this all so probable

Thank you friends (thank you again)
Thank you friends (thank you again)
Dear, dear friends (thank you again)
Thank you friends (thank you again)
And again, and again….
Never too late to start

Family Lost

Bert Jansch

In the past week I have lost an Aunt in Australia and an Uncle in Bellshill, they say such things come in three’s and regretably this has been the case as my Uncle Jim passed away this morning in the Vale of Leven Hospital.

“Sweet Death” – Bert Jansch

Oh my sweet love, come to me
Take me in your soft embrace
Sweet love, please come closer
That I may touch your gentle face
Sing to me a love song
That will drive away my earthly fears
And when it’s all over
You can wipe away the tears

Sweet Death, please come easy
Help me end my suffering
Please hurry to my bedside
I cannot wait another day
Come quickly fill my being
Let no-one know that you are there
Then quietly light a candle
Walk ahead to show the way

Too long have I suffered
To carry on another day
Gently close my eyes now
Let hope and care fade away
Carry me across the water
Where the darkness meets the day
As I follow in your footsteps
Your candle lights the way

I had a wierd dream last night that transported me back to the Girvan Boat Pond I was even sure I could smell the fuel from the motor boats which as boy I had much pleasure in driving round and round “Come in Number 7 your time is up” aye right!

We went to Girvan on holiday before we could afford the luxury of Scarborough or Blackpool.

Golden Wedding

Today is my folks 50th Wedding Anniversary and if Fiona had still been with us we would be enjoying a weekend of luxury at Gleneagles Hotel.

However with Fiona’s passing this was cancelled and instead I endured an afternoon of torture as Dumbarton lost 3-1 to East Stirling away from home. Now it wasn’t that we played bad it was just that Mark Peat lived up to his reputation as the best goalkeeper in the league and that Colin Brown confirmed his standing as the most constantly worst referee ever to grace a football field, he is without doubt a disgrace to his profession.

Nevertheless we are all marking the Anniversary in a smaller scale with lunch at The Boat House at Cameron House tomorrow

In the meantime here are the Cowboy Junkies with “Anniversary Song”

Finally for Fiona here is Bruce Springsteen and “She’s The One”

With her killer graces and her secret places
That no boy can fill with her hands on her hips
Oh and that smile on her lips
Because she knows that it kills me
With her soft french cream
Standing in that doorway like a dream
I wish she’d just leave me alone
Because french cream won’t soften them boots
And french kisses will not break that heart of stone
With her long hair falling
And her eyes that shine like a midnight sun
Oh-o she’s the one, she’s the one

That Thunder in your heart
At night when you’re kneeling in the dark
It says you’re never gonna leave her
But there’s this angel in her eyes
That tells such desperate lies
And all you want to do is believe her
And tonight you’ll try just one more time
To leave it all behind and to break on through
Oh she can take you, but if she wants to break you
She’s gonna find out that ain’t so easy to do
And no matter where you sleep tonight or how far you run
Oh-o she’s the one, she’s the one

Oh-o and just one kiss
She’d fill them long summer nights
With her tenderness that secret pact you made
Back when her love could save you from the bitterness
Oh she’s the one, oh she’s the one
Oh she’s the one, oh she’s the one
