Wednesday Words – Citizen Cope
“Sideways” – Citizen Cope
You know it ain’t easy
For these thoughts here to leave me
There’s no words to describe it
In French or in English
Cause, diamonds they fade
And flowers they bloom
And I’m telling you
These feelings won’t go away
They’ve been knockin’ me sideways
They’ve been knockin’ me out, they
Whenever you come around me
These feelings won’t go away
They’ve been knockin’ me sideways
I keep thinking in a moment that, time will take them away
But these feelings won’t go away… (slow music)
These feelings won’t go away…
It ain’t easy
For these thoughts here to leave me
there’s no words to describe it
In French or in English
These diamonds they fade
And flowers they bloom
I’m telling you
These feelings won’t go away
They’ve been knockin’ me sideways
They’ve been knockin’ me out, babe
Whenever you come around me
These feelings won’t go away
They’ve been knockin’ me sideways
I keep thinking any moment that
Time will take them away
These feelings won’t go away
They’ve been knockin’ me sideways
I keep thinking any moment that
Time will take them away
These feelings won’t go away… (slow music)
These feelings won’t go away…
The diamonds they fade
The flowers they bloom
I’m telling you
I’m telling you
The diamonds they fade
The flowers they bloom
I’m telling you
I’m telling you
These feelings won’t go away
They’ve been knockin’ me sideways
They’ve been knockin’ me out babe
Whenever you come around me
These feelings won’t go away
They’ve been knockin’ me sideways
I keep thinking any moment that
Time will take them away…
(refrain out…)
Ghost Town – The Movie
Watched this last night, don’t know why as Mr Gervais has never really done it for me so as suspected it was no more than average.
HOWEVER it does include two great songs in the soundtrack.
First up is Citizen Cope a pseudonym of Clarence Greenwood, an American musician.
After releasing his demo tape, Cope was signed to Capitol Records, where he recorded Shotguns. In 1998, he was dropped from Capitol, without releasing the album.
In 2000, Greenwood signed with the DreamWorks Records label, which released his first album in September 2002, Citizen Cope. To promote the record, Greenwood toured as an opener for Nelly Furtado. He performed at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California, in 2002.
The Washington Post did a large feature on Cope in early 2002, declaring Greenwood the most raptastic artist since Marvin Gaye.
In October 2002, Carlos Santana released his record titled Shaman. Greenwood wrote and produced one of the tracks on that album.
After the release of Citizen Cope, Greenwood felt that the label “mishandled” the record. Tension between the label and artist prompted Greenwood to buy out his contract with the label, using the advance he received from his next label, Arista Records and RCA Records, to do so.
In September 2004, Citizen Cope released his second record, The Clarence Greenwood Recordings, which became an underground classic. The album has sold more than 273,000 records to date, without any commercial or college radio play. From 2004 through 2008, Citizen Cope endured a heavy tour schedule.
In 2005, Cope continued to tour the United States promoting his second major-label record. In April, his song “Son’s Gonna Rise” began appearing in a Pontiac commercial and was distributed as the album’s second single.
On September 12, 2006, Citizen Cope released the album, Every Waking Moment.
In early 2008, Citizen Cope parted ways with RCA records.[1]
His song, “Let the Drummer Kick” was featured in the 2008 Acura TSX commercial early that year.
In early June 2008, Citizen Cope announced a special one off solo show at the London Luminaire in Kilburn on the 2nd July.
He made an appearance on Dido’s 2008 album Safe Trip Home, collaborating on a track called “Burnin’ Love”.
Throughout 2008, Citizen Cope sold more than 100,000 tickets in North America alone (festivals and colleges not included), doing more than 120 shows.
Cope finished his highly successful US solo acoustic tour in December 2008. Citizen Cope is set to go back on tour, with his full band, in late January through the end of February 2009. He is currently working on his next album, The Rainwater LP, scheduled for release in February 2010, with an early release in October/November for fans who purchase “The Rainwater LP” Deluxe Edition.

Next up is the great Brendan Benson
Brendan Benson (born November 14, 1970, in Royal Oak, Michigan) is an American musician and songwriter. He sings and plays guitar, bass guitar, keyboard, and drums. He has released four solo albums and is a member of the band The Raconteurs.
Benson’s major musical influences include The Cars, David Bowie, The Electric Light Orchestra, Elvis Costello, The Kinks, Robyn Hitchcock, Paul McCartney, Joe Jackson, The Who, Dramarama, and Todd Rundgren.
In 2005, Benson released his third album, The Alternative to Love, and toured extensively in the US, UK, and Europe with his new touring band, The Stiff Tissues.
“Spit It Out” was the first single and reached the UK Top 75 for the first time (peaking at #75 in April), and also generated some buzz for Brendan.
Two further singles were released from the album. “Cold Hands Warm Heart” has appeared in many commercials and TV shows and “What I’m Looking For” was used in multiple national advertising campaigns. This album charted at #70 in the UK Albums Chart.
Benson is also a member of The Raconteurs, a collaboration with Jack White, of The White Stripes and The Dead Weather, and two members of The Greenhornes, Jack Lawrence and Patrick Keeler. Benson and White work together in writing the songs. The group’s debut album, Broken Boy Soldiers, was released in the U.S. on May 16, 2006, with “Steady, As She Goes” the first single.
“What I’m Looking For” – Brendan Benson
Well I don’t know what I’m looking for
But I know that I just wanna look some more
And I won’t be satisfied
‘Till there’s nothing left that I haven’t tried
For some people it’s an easy choice
But for me there’s a devil and an angel’s voice
Well I don’t know what I am looking for
But I know that I just wanna look some more
Well I don’t know what I’m living for
But I know that I just wanna live some more
And you hear it from strangers
And you hear it from friends
That love never dies, love never ends
Now I don’t wanna argue, no I don’t wanna fight
‘Cause you’re always wrong and I’m always right
Well I don’t know what I am living for
But I know that I just wanna live some more
I used to be involved, and I felt like a king
Now I’ve lost it all and I don’t feel a thing
I may never grow old, I may never give in
And I’ll blame this world that I live in
I visit hell on a daily basis
I see the sadness in all your faces
I’ve got friends who have married
And their lives seem complete
Here I am still stumbling down a darkened street
And I act like a child and I’m insecure
And I’m filled with doubt and I’m immature
Sometimes it creeps up on me and before I know it
I’m lost at sea
But no matter how far I row
I always find my way back home
But I don’t know what I’ve been waiting for
But I know that I don’t wanna wait anymore
Looking for…
What I’m looking for…
Looking for…
What I’m looking for…
Looking for…
What I’m looking for…
Looking for…
What I’m looking for…
Looking for…
What I’m looking for…
