The Endless Note

Maggie Bell and Dave Kelly

It was areal privilege to be at the superb “Backstage At The Green” venue, as promoted by Mundell Music, on Friday night to see two legends for the price of one in Maggie Bell and Dave Kelly.

Regulars to this site will know that Maggie has featured here on several occasions (use Search function for more information) and to be honest a Blues Band/Dave Kelly blog has been long overdue.

The combination of Maggie and Dave in such an intimate setting is pure genius and I await with interest for the promised forthcoming recording sessions which will hopefully give them some joint product to flog on future tours.

I have most albums live and studio which Maggie has recorded with Stone The Crows and solo thus there was nothing new to purchase, though she was kind enough to sign my “Queen Of The Night” cover.

During the interval at the end of the concert I had the opportunity for a brief chat and can confirm that she did record a version of The Who’s “Love Reign O’er Me” during the 1972 Lou Reznier Tommy Sessions and that hopefully the next tour will feature an arrangement of “Blind Man”

“Blind Man” – Stone The Crows

The set actually featured more cover versions than “originals” this being a prime example.

They also performed this Curtis Mayfield written track from the “Ode To John Law” Stone The Crows album

As for Dave Kelly well he will be returning to “Backstage At The Green” with his Blues Band buddy Paul Jones early in the New Year make sure you don’t miss a great night of blues music

Their live albums “Live At The Ram Jam Club Vol 1 and Vol 2” from 2007 and 2008 are particular favourites of mine.
