New News – Robert Plant
Robert Plant has announced details of his new solo album ‘Band Of Joy’, to be released on 13th September.
The sometime Led Zeppelin singer picks things off where previous, Grammy awards winning, album ‘Raising Sand’ left off. Recorded in Nashville with guitarist Buddy Miller it sees the Rock legend back in a rootsier mood.
Plant says of Miller’s co-production of the album, “Buddy’s integral to this album, you can hear his taste all over the instrumentation. Buddy’s zone is beautiful, with a lot of reflections going back into mid-Fifties rockabilly, the singing fishermen and all the great country stuff, along with the soul and R&B from Memphis.”
“Band Of Joy” features intriguing new interpretations of songs from a wide range of sources. Opening with a throbbing rendition of Los Lobos’s ‘Angel Dance’, the album encompasses the glittering drone-rock of Low’s ‘Silver Rider’ and ‘Monkey’, the Fifties-style country-gospel harmonies which transform The Kelly Brothers’ Sixties soul classic ‘Falling In Love Again’, the desolate banjo-driven interpretation of ‘Satan Your Kingdom Must Come Down’, the transplanted English/Appalachian folk ballad ‘Cindy, I’ll Marry You Some Day’, and jangling blues imagery of ‘Central Two-0-Nine’.

Wednesday Words – Bob Dylan
If not for you, my sky would fall, rain would gather too
Without your love I’d be nowhere at all
Oh what would I do if not for you ?
If not for you, babe, I couldn’t find the door
Couldn’t even see the floor
I’d be sad and blue if not for you.
If not for you, baby, I’d lay awake all night
Wait for the morning light
To shine in through
But it will not be new if not for you.
If not for you, my sky would fall, rain would gather too
Without your love I’d be nowhere at all
I’d be lost if not for you
And you know it’s true.
If not for you, my sky would fall, rain would gather too
Without your love I’d be nowhere at all
Oh what would I do if not for you ?
If not for you, winter would have no spring
I couldn’t hear the robins sing
I just wouldn’t have a clue
Anyway it wouldn’t ring true if not for you
If not for you, if not for you.

Johnny Cash – Hurt
One of the many great cover versions Cash recorded in his latter years with producer Rick Rubin this one greatly enhanced by it’s video.

Steve Gibbons Band
In the late 70′s the Steve Gibbons Band were a good old rock and roll band who were sidetracked by the arrival of punk.
Under the same management as The Who they toured as support to The Who in the fall of 1975 and eventually broke through with a hit single, a cover of Chuck Berry’s “Tulane” and a album “Rollin’ On”
Roger Daltrey covered “One Of The Boys” from this album on his solo album of the same name.
Steve Gibbons followed this success with a great live album “Caught In The Act” the cover being themed on the Melody Maker live review section.
The Steve Gibbons Band are still touring and are on tour as I type.
