Teenage Cancer Trust – “Tommy”
There was a sense of real anticpation for the highlight of this years series of concerts in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust held at the Royal Albert Hall last week because The Who hadn’t performed Tommy since 1989.
Anticipation filled the air as Roger Daltrey led his own touring band through the performance of “Tommy” plus some other Who classics and solo material, the big question was would Pete Townshend make an appearance…..of couse he would.
There have been so many questions flying around concerning the future of The Who. How bad is Pete’s hearing? Would The Who ever tour again as a band? Would they ever, indeed, play together for the occasional gig, the aswer will without doubt be yes but who knowns when and who knows where.

Lonesome Road
Having now finished the above book my favourite two Chapters were those dedicated to Blind Willie McTell (watch out for forthcoming post) and the one detailing the “Bob Dylan Theme Time Radio Hour” from which I discovered that Frank Sinatra was the most played artist and that one of Dylan’s all time favourite tracks is Sinatra’s 1957 version of “Lonesome Road”
Look down – look down
That lonesome road
Before you travel on
Look up – look up
And seek your maker
Before (mr.) gabriel blows his horn
(I’m) weary (of) toting – such a (heavy) load
Trudging down – the (that) lonesome road
Look down – look down
That lonesome road
Before (before) you travel on
True love – true love
What have I done
That you should treat me so
You – caused me
To walk and talk
Like I never did before
(I’m) weary (of) toting – such a (heavy) load
Trudging down – the (that) lonesome road
Look down – look down (look down – look down)
That lonesome road
Before (before) you (decide to) travel on

Hall of Fame – Tom Waits
Tom Waits became a member of the prestigious US Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame yesterday evening, with Neil Young inducting him at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York.
About time !!

Introducing Waits at the same venue where he was inducted by Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder in 1995, Young remarked that Waits was “a great performer, singer, actor, songwriter, magician, changeling and spiritual guy.”
The award was in recognition of a career and extensive body of work that has seen him carve a singular path outwith the musical mainstream from his early relatively straightly arranged poetic, character-driven, bar ballads through to encompassing or mixing wholly different styles, including beat boxing and experimental noise-making into his work.
Accepting, Waits said “Thanks, everybody, this is very encouraging. Songs are really just interesting things to do with the air. I was fifteen when I snuck into a club to see Lightning Hopkins. I wore an overcoat, put white-out in my hair, drew on a moustache and said in a deep voice, “One ticket please.” I saw Lightning walk through a door in the back room that said, ‘Keep Out!! This Room for entertainers only.’ At that moment, I realised I wanted to get into show business as soon as possible.”
He then paid gracious tribute to his partner both in life and music, whom he has always acknowledge plays a major role in his work, “I am grateful to my wife and my collaborator Kathleen Brennan. She is the light that helps me find my way and to my kids who have taught me everything I know.”, before painting an image fit for one of his songs with a wise-crack, “Some day, I hope to hear, “Hey Mack, take the cuffs off him, I think he’s a Hall of Famer!”.
Waits performed four songs at the ceremony, Make It Rain, Rain Dogs, House Where Nobody Lives and Get Behind The Mule (with Young accompanying on the last).
Also inducted at the 2011 ceremony were, Alice Cooper, Neil Diamond, Leon Russell, Dr John and Darlene Love.
Waits is currently working on a new album.

P.S. I Love You
I just want to see you
When you’re all alone
I just want to catch you if I can
I just want to be there
When the morning light explodes
On your face it radiates
I can’t escape
I love you till the end
I just want to tell you nothing
You don’t want to hear
All I want is for you to say
Why don’t you just take me
Where I’ve never been before
I know you want to hear me
Catch my breath
I love you till the end (x4)
I just want to be there
When we’re caught in the rain
I just want to see you laugh not cry
I just want to feel you
When the night puts on its cloak
I’m lost for words dont tell me
Cause all I can say
I love you till the end (x5)
All I can say
I love you till the end (x3
It’s all I can say
I love you till the end (x3)
If I ever leave this world alive
I’ll thank for all the things you did in my life
If I ever leave this world alive
I’ll come back down and sit beside your
feet tonight
Wherever I am you’ll always be
More than just a memory
If I ever leave this world alive
If I ever leave this world alive
I’ll take on all the sadness
That I left behind
If I ever leave this world alive
The madness that you feel will soon subside
So in a word don’t shed a tear
I’ll be here when it all gets weird
If I ever leave this world alive
So when in doubt just call my name
Just before you go insane
If I ever leave this world
Hey I may never leave this world
But if I ever leave this world alive
She says I’m okay; I’m alright,
Though you have gone from my life
You said that it would,
Now everything should be all right
She says I’m okay; I’m alright,
Though you have gone from my life
You said that it would,
Now everything should be all right
Yeah should be alright

I Still Miss Someone
At my door the leaves are falling
A cold wild wind Will come
Sweethearts walk by together
And I still miss someone
I go out on a party
And look for a little fun
But I find a darkened corner
‘Cause I still miss someone
Oh, no I never got over those blues eyes
I see them every where
I miss those arms that held me
When all the love was there
I wonder if she’s sorry
For leavin’ what we’d begun
There’s someone for me somewhere
And I still miss someone
Oh, no I never got over those blues eyes
I see them every where
I miss those arms that held me
When all the love was there
I wonder if she’s sorry
For leavin’ what we’d begun
There’s someone for me somewhere
And I still miss someone
and i still miss someone

Wow! Kate Bush Is Back
Wake up, Kate Bush is back.
The legendary pop siren will release her new album Director’s Cut on May 16. And it looks set to be no ordinary record…
Director’s Cut sees Kate revisit tracks from 1989′s The Sensual World and 1993′s The Red Shoes. Some elements have been re-recorded for 2011 and a new version of Deeper Understanding will be released as a single next month.
The LP will be available on standard CD and as a deluxe 3-CD edition (featuring Director’s Cut, The Sensual World and The Red Shoes remastered). You’ll also be able to get hold of the album on vinyl and via digital download.
Although she contributed a song to The Golden Compass soundtrack in 2007, this will be Kate’s first major release since 2005′s Aerial.
