Blue Monday – Rory Gallagher
Rory Gallagher was one of my earliest musical heroes, he was my gateway to the blues though it was several years later before I travelled down the road to the crossroads to find the real thing.
Today would have been his 61st birthday so there was no competition for this weeks Blue Monday.
Here is a note posted on the official web site, as per link above, yesterday by his brother Donal
Dear All,
On the eve of Rory’s birthday (2/3/1948), he is still sadly missed by us all but his music thrives on.
With various tributes around his birthday it is heartening to see Rory’s devotees celebrate my brother’s music, life and times with various tribute nights (see details elsewhere on website). In an effort to support these and upcoming events, we are reopening the forum so people can discuss which events they’re planning to attend and can make plans to meet.
This year celebrates the 40th anniversary of the release of the first official Taste album ‘Taste’ and we are currently hard at work endeavouring to produce something special to mark the occasion with Polydor/Universal. I have seen speculative rumours regarding this project and wish to stress that these are speculative; the project is still ‘in the studio’ as we scour to find the best material. On that matter anyone who may have any rare, good quality material of Taste, it would be great to hear from you; please email info@strangemusic.co.uk with any information.
He is one of a rare breed of artists who has released two “classic” live albums.
First up was “Live In Europe” from 1972
…….from which I bring you the definitive “Bullfrog Blues”

The second classic live album was “Irish Tour ’74″
The original album was supplemented in 2000 with the release of the “Irish Tour” DVD
