Sunday Jazz – Barney Kessel

barney-kessel

This week’s Sunday Jazz is Barney Kessel’s instrumental version of one of my favourite songs “Angel Eyes” which both Ella and Frank have covered with my favourite version being Ella’s (sorry Jane).

I was pointed in the direction of Barney Kessel after reading that he was one of Pete Townshend’s biggest influences (Townshend even composed some music in his name which can be found on one of the Scoop albums which collect all his home demos).

Kessel provided the heart string tearing guitar on Julie London’s “Cry Me A River” and made the Gibson Electric Acoustic guitar his own.

Anyone who likes the great Martin Taylor will love the work of Kessel.
