The Human Spirit

The human spirit is an unquantifiable force.

For days we have been trying to assure Mrs D that she will be fine and will get home soon, despite knowing that the contrarey is the case.

Today we have been told that she is so far gone that she through her soul/spirit is aware that the end is near and that encouraging her otherwise will only force her to fight against the inevitable thus prolonging her pain.

As a husband I am now being encouraged to talk about the people she has loved who have passed before and to let her know that I am now giving her up and she can go and be with them again, this being the medical advice.

I can assure you this is a predicament I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy.

I am no big believer in organized religion but have some deep rooted belief that there must be something beyond life as we know it

All feelings and beliefs are being tested during these trying times and much soul searching lies ahead.

Mrs D Update

Firstly let me apologize for being so morbid and using this Blog to reflect on the situation I currently find myself in.

I do so for a couple of reasons, it is as they say a release valve to write down what feelings you are experiencing and whilst I would never fully open up my inner feelings I do find benefit in what I have been posting.

Another advantage of the posts is that it helps update our wide range of family, friends and collegues. It is amazing how many phone calls texts and e-mails you have to field and being based full time at the hospital it is impossible to speak with everyone who cares on a regular basis.

I can only again re-iterate what a fantastic level of care we have been receiving from the medical staff at the hospital, the nurses are all true angels.

I will get back to posting music and video as soon as I can, in the meantime here is another of Mrs D’s favourite photographs.

No improvement as expected on the Mrs D front yet no visible deterioration she is due to the sedation asleep most of the time

Mrs D was admitted to hospital on the evening of Christmas Day with severe abdominal pain

The ambulance and A&E staff were tremendous

Unfortunately her underlying cancer condition has left her body unable to stand any major surgery as such she in now in a pain management ward were the toxins from her pain management will eventually bring her life to a premature end

We knew we were going to lose her to the cancer eventually but not so soon, however, the doctor knowing the scenario assured her that she would be out in a couple of days by then of course she was so sedated she doesn’t know anything

If she hadn’t taken I’ll she most likely wouldhave been told after a scan in January that there is nothing more they could do for her thus consigning her to a death sentence so although we will lose her earlier at least she has now had no knowledge of her fate
